The Essential Details of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift his pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to completely stop any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you move your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions with hope to improve your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game tactic is commonly used when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this plan, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
