The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

[ English ]

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to move your checkers carefully around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition moves their pieces toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move his checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely stop any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if she ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point eleven in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the movement of the opponent, your opponent doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game technique relies on alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game tactic is often used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
