The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2

[ English ]

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and good luck. The goal is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift their chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely block any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if she at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. As soon as you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of the opponent, the opponent does not even get to toss the dice, that means you move your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to boost your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game technique relies on seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally used when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
