The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The aim is to shift your checkers carefully around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player moves their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon plans to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely block any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get hit, or result a damaged position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the movement of your competitor, your opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you shift your checkers and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The objectives of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, but the Back Game technique utilizes seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
