The Essential Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to shift your pieces carefully around the game board to your home board and at the same time your opponent moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon plans to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift his checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your board. As soon as you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of the opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to harm your competitor’s positions hoping to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game plan uses different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is frequently used when you’re far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this technique, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more difficult than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
